Dachshund Rescue of North America

Dachshund Rescue of North America is a not for profit dachshund rescue organization with one purpose — to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home purebred dachshunds and dachshund mixes in need. The Dachshund Rescue of North America is a network of experienced rescue people throughout the United States and Canada who were previously rescuing Dachshunds independently and realized the benefits of joining forces and combining resources. Last year they placed over 1000 doxies to new, loving permanent homes.

What They Do
Most dogs spend at least a short time in foster care so their behavior can be evaluated in a home setting. They also offer potential adopters information on how their new doxie may interact with their existing family members and other pets. These are critical components to a good match. They also try to improve potty training skills if they are not already house trained. Foster homes provide a foundation for a Dachshunds new life.

All dogs placed by DRNA have been checked by a veterinarian and the following procedures have been completed:

Spayed or neutered
Rabies vaccine
DHPPC vaccine
Fecal test (treated if necessary)
Heartworm test (treated if necessary)
Dental cleaning (if needed)

They also try to identify and treat any long-term health conditions so that you, as the adopter, know what you are committing to.

Vet care costs average $300 per dog. Donations help them make up the difference so they can provide dogs the care they desperately need and all contributions are tax-deductible.

How They Do It
North America Dachshund Rescue has standard placement fees, regardless of the condition in which the dog was received. They are able to accomplish this through the generosity of donations. Their philosophy is that there's a home somewhere for every dog they foster. Some just take a little bit longer to find.
